Purpose

This tool is used to cut one or multiple shapefiles into tiles of regular size and alignment.

Technical Note

The tool cuts the input shapefiles into tiles with size and alignment defined by the respective fields.

By setting different values in the panel fields it is possible to define the tiles as squares or rectangles by using equal or different latitude and longitude values respectively.

The tool gives the opportunity to select the grid to which the tiles should be aligned by setting the respective alignment parameters. Moreover, it is possible to create a GeoDataBase (.gdb) file for every output tile.

The output files names contains the coordinates of their top leftmost point in the alignment grid.

Please note: once the output is created, the maximum number of files that can be opened is 130 due to the open capabilities files number of files opened in Windows (130x3 considering all the auxiliary files for single shape as .shp, .shx, .dbf). If the value exceeds 130, the process may slow down.

Input Files

Input Shape Files

File name(s) of the input shapes to cut. This file is mandatory, the shapefiles must contain only point features.

Parameters - Principal Parameters

Create gdb files

By setting this flag a .gdb file is created for every output tile.

Tile Lon size (m)

Tile size in the Longitude coordinate in meters.

Tile Lat size (m)

Tile size in the Latitude coordinate in meters.

Tile Offset Lon (m)

Tile alignment of the tile in the Longitude coordinate in meters.

Tile Offset Lat (m)

Tile alignment of the tile in the Latitude coordinate in meters.

Delete shapefiles after conversion

By setting this flag the shapefile are deleted because they are included in the .gdb file.

Parameters - Global

It brings to the general section of the Preferences parameters. Any modified value will be used and stored for further processing sessions.

Parameters - Other Parameters

Output Files

Output Root Name

Name of the output root. This file is mandatory.
